From the code to the content, the current Buy Subliminal update is not about incremental tweaks, it’s a massive revision— As if you couldn’t tell by the quill and brush banners that are scattered about the site.
I once said to a friend that books are like open letters waiting for a reply. There’s only so much that we can accomplish in a lifetime. Nothing is ever finished, it’s just brought to a level of completion that advances the art— that takes the lineage of knowledge a little further.
Usually, a website like this would be set up for one over-arching purpose—to make money. There’d be a small, close-knit team of talented rapid-taskers— that at a bare minimum would include a developer to program functionality, a designer to style the front-end, a content creator to compose the artwork and writing, and marketer to churn up sales.
The problem is that monetary motivation, even on a subconscious level, can and does stain everything that it touches with an imprint of its own values. Why you’re doing something may not be as important as doing it? But it does make a difference. One could argue that science for sale isn’t science— that canned spirituality sold on the shelf isn’t spiritual.
Enough already— there’s more in life than making a living— like making a life worth living!
I’m a one-man team who makes haste slowly. Keeping up with the ever-increasing rate of change is not impossible— nothing is impossible, but it could very well be a death sentence. It’s humbling for a perfectionist like me to have all the rough-stuff hanging out for the world to see. I’m much more comfortable refining the prose and streamlining usability from behind the scenes— having everything polished and shined before going live. Only if! It was either wait and procrastinate until it was probably too late, or go with the creative flow and put my motivation in motion now.
Undoubtedly this offbeat approach might be an inconvenience for some of you, like road work on a busy highway. But, it also gives you an idea of what’s to come— a close-up and personal look at my creative-mess— an inside view of my thinking, research methods and motivations. So, it’s a rare opportunity that notches up transparency to a level just shy of full-on collaboration.
This post is for me as much as it is for you. For me, it’s a writing journal, a place to note my intentions, check my progress and weigh-out my priorities. For you, it’s a resource that should answer the questions that you might not even be aware of, questions that are but quiet murmurs on the edge of your mind— a users guide extraordinaire, and a place where you can get to know me a little better. After all, we are speaking with the same voice in your mind right now, aren’t we?
Disrupting the Disrupters with Digital Mindfulness
Buy Subliminal is Unplugged, Un-Socialised, and an Un-Lister
With relentless gusts of overwhelm and distraction swirling about our heads, it’s easy to get swept up by the whirlwind of life. And forget all about nurturing your interests and the little old websites that you’d like to revisit and get more familiar with. That’s where email-list should come in. The problem is that you have to enter your personal details to sign up, which more often than not, commodifies you— Instead of a visitor, a kindred spirit, you’re turned into a juicy lead and squeezed into a segment— or even worse, your personal data could be sold to the highest bidder on the list-market.
In the cutthroat world of surveillance capitalism, rather than the helpful reminder that they should be, email-list are prone to be abused. They’ve been tarnished by overzealous-mailorder-marketeers. And at least for me, they’re a nuisance.
I’m not a list kind of guy. Even if I had a list for you to sign up to, I wouldn’t be able to manage it with the respect and consideration that each of you deserves— my hands are full. Creating well-researched, original and high-quality content is a 24/7 endeavor. So, for now, buysubliminal.com is a none-lister.
Be that as it may, that left ‘reminding-you-issue’ dangling out in no-mans land. You could go the old fashion route and just make a bookmark, but, that’s often fraught by forgetfulness.
As you may have noticed by now, I did find a safe and convenient solution. Mind you, it took some time, two full days to be exact, but I found a Push Alert service— without the tricky code. Being browser-based means that it has to pass through your browsers security protocols— and doesn’t require any personal information to activate. All you have to do is click to accept notifications in the browser drop-down, and you’ll get notified whenever buysubliminal is updated.
Putting You First— Updating BuySubliminal’s Social Milieu
You’d have to be supra-observant to notice what’s missing— namely, the lack of candy-colored social sharing buttons hanging around just begging to be clicked.
All of this extra-caution undoubtedly curbs our trending potential, but the long-form, in-depth essays that you find on buysubliminal.com aren’t for everyone anyway. They’re for a special breed of folks who can appreciate the extra-care and commitment— people who aren’t satisfied with the fast-food-for-thought, commercial bias machine.
You see, if I put a Facebook or Twitter button on the site, you’d be exposed to their malicious tracking mechanizations. They’re too-big-to be ignored completely. So there is a Subliminal FB Page that’s semi-active. The plan is to set up WeMe and Minds share-buttons so that we can still enjoy some social-buzz without opening ourselves up to unwarranted intrusions into our personal mind-space.
“Anything that brings us together fosters our humanity… We use our social connections to orient ourselves, to ensure mutual survival, and to derive meaning and purpose. This is not merely a quaint notion but our biological legacy. People who are disconnected from the organizations or communities they serve often wither without them.
We sometimes connect with one another in order to achieve some common goal, such as finding food or evading prey. But we also commune and communicate for their own sake—because we gain strength, pleasure, and purpose as we develop rapport.”
It’s not just about connecting it’s the authentic quality and the unabashed variety of our connections that count. With the full weight of surveillance capitalism bearing down on our social lives, and mega-corps enclosing us in walled-gardens to lock-in our participation, it takes a concerted effort to break free— and to protect yourself and your visitors from getting gob-smacked by cookie-monsters— the intrusive code-snippets that ride on the tail of quick-and-easy conveniences.
Staying in the Flow – Privacy and Creative Connectivity
I’m addressing the issue of privacy on the ground level. Triple checking all the third-party functionality to make sure it doesn’t comprise your anonymity. There is always balance though and trade off’s have to be weighed. For example, adding a Youtube subliminal video to a post, open us up to some of their algorithmic snooping. Without losing all the luster and benefits of ‘Web 3.0’, at this point avoiding Google is all but impossible.
Maintaining quality and connectivity while staying free of toxic mind-born debris is of the most significant challenges of our era!

Please Note— I’ve got to bounce out for a day or two to smooth out some tech issues. I’ll send out a push-notifier when the next milestone is achieved.
