  • WIRED article “The Weird Russian Mind-Control Research Behind a DHS Contract”

    This article in WIRED magazine was published a couple of years after Igor Smirnov’s death

    The report raises significant scientific skepticism. Neuroscientist Geoff Schoenbaum from the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine notes that while subliminal perception exists, there’s no scientific foundation for the specificity claimed by SSRM Tek, stating bluntly: “If we could do what they’re talking about, you would know about it. It wouldn’t be a handful of Russian folks in a basement.”

  • Newsweek article “A Subliminal Dr. Strangelove”

    Smirnov’s technologies were created in the USSR and well-funded before the collapse of the USSR. Smirnov’s team then needed qualified personnel and funding to further discoveries in psychotechnology.

    The Newsweek article was published on August 21, 1994 — after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

    Characteristic of that time was the chaos and gang warfare in Russia. It is also mentioned in the article that two tough guys in suits and diamond rings showed up at the Newsweek office in Moscow, asking questions about Smirnov.

    Also, this article mentions the famous incident with davidian sect members, when the FBI consulted Smirnov.
